Tips for Surfcasting Night Fishing - Holiday Fishing

The world does not change at night, what changes is our perception. Night fishing can not be approached in the same way as we do during the day, as our senses face really different conditions. That is why today at Fishingdesk we will give you some tips to tackle surfcasting fishing at night, avoiding mishaps and getting the most out of it.

Advantages of fishing at night

The vast majority of fish tend to feed at times where the sun touches the water, that is, at dawn or dusk, which leaves us half a day immersed in the dark. In addition, many large-caliber predators that we would like to catch during the day do not appear very often if not at night. It is therefore very important for any fisherman to know how to cope with night fishing conditions.
On the other hand, at night you can enjoy more of nature, solitude and silence. Ideal for relaxing and disconnecting technology or work stress. It is an excellent mental therapy and also a physical challenge. As low temperatures, added to the collection effort help to enhance our physical abilities and maintain good health.

Safety tips before going fishing at night

Safety first comes first. Locate an illuminated beach, which has easy access to urban areas, from which you can see other people. Avoid getting into unknown or dangerous terrain. You should know beforehand the beach and fish in it on previous occasions.
NEVER GO ONLY, remember that we are diurnal beings, we are prone to accidents during the night hours as we do not see well, sleep is a pressing factor and temperature can play a trick.
Also avoid slippery, steep or stony areas. It preferably goes to sandy beaches, since the piers and breakwaters could carry an ugly fall or accident.

What to bring to a day of surfcasting night fishing?

In addition to the items we normally use for surfcasting fishing, we need to include some additional tools.
  • In the first place one or several flashlights of great capacity and duration. Preferably with your spare batteries, in case the ones you are using are exhausted.

  • Clothing is another important factor if you do not want to freeze or have a hard time. Regardless of the season, once the sun goes down, the cold lashes, cover yourself according to the temperature. Above all the chest, the back and throat should be kept in place to avoid colds.

  • Hands on the other hand though they are needed free to arm the rigs; If it is very cold, use a pair of gloves once you have finished handling the fishing items.

  • Large and easy to handle fishing box. Making several trips to the car, to go out all our equipment is much more difficult at night, so we recommend the use of a large box that allows you to get everything in one trip.

  • If you do not like or do not feel comfortable carrying a large box, choose to use a backpack or a cart with wheels to facilitate the transport of fishing equipment.

  • Refreshments and hot drinks will never be too much on a nightly journey. If we do not sleep the body feels hungry and in addition the effort we make burns a lot of energy, so it is vital to feed properly.

  • In addition, and even if you find it funny, bringing dry soap can be extremely useful. Usually sea water is sufficient to wash our hands after handling the baits and our catches. But at night the situation changes when the cold wind touches our wet hands. If you do not want to freeze your fingers, carry it in your backpack

Surfcasting Tackle

Finally we advise to make slight changes in your gear, since during the night the fish also change their perception.
Find out if the species you wish to fish improves or makes your vision worse at night. If worse I resort to baits whose smell is stronger. Also increase its size and do not worry so much to give a great camouflage to the hook. However if the view of the fish sharpens, covers the hook well, and ensures that it does not touch the ground to keep it moving.
During the day we are accustomed to using fluorocarbon wires so that they are not seen under water. However, at night really does not merit that we spend in this material so expensive, because there is no light to reflect.
The hooks, on the other hand, have no major inconvenience, in fact those with a brighter color than usual might serve to capture the attention of curious predators.

Learning to Fish Without Hardware – The Fishing Holiday

Learning to Fish Without Hardware

Survival techniques: Fishing for food

The best time to fish is certainly not easy to determine since fish, depending on their species, feed at different times but well determined before day or night.

As a rule, it is best to fish before the dawn or just after dusk, before a storm or when the moon is full or declining. Jumping minnows and circles on the water announce the presence of voracious fish.

Where to fish?

You will choose the best place according to the waters and time of day. In a fast stream and in the heat of the day, try the deep pools located at the bottom of the rapids.

As evening approaches or early in the morning, stretch your bait near the submerged logs, under the slopes and bushes overlooking the surface of the water.

On the lakes, during the summer heat, fish deep.
During the warm season, in the evening and in the early morning, fish in shallow waters.

Find Fishing Bait

Typically, fish will bite to the bait you find in the surrounding waters.
At the water's edge, look for aquatic insects and minnows.
On the shore, worms and terrestrial insects.

When you catch a fish, open it, see what its stomach contains and choose bait of the same kind.
If they are ineffective, use the eyes and intestines of the caught fish for the same purpose.

If worms serve you as bait, they must cover the point of the hook to better deceive the fish.

If minnows are kept, keep them alive and bait them by the back, tail or lips.
When your bait is not alive, do not push it too far into the hook.

You can make artificial decoys with brightly colored cloths, feathers or shiny metal imitating injured minnows.

Make improvised hooks and lines

In survival mode, you probably do not have hooks, make them with badges, pins, bones, or hardwood.

Fibers of bark or twisted tissue will serve as a line.

Take fibers of trees or vines and tie a knot at the ends of the two lengths that you will turn clockwise while interlocking in the opposite direction.

To lengthen the line, add as many fibers as necessary. If it is very heavy fish, use parachutes if possible.

Nails can also be used as hooks. Sometimes it is impossible to catch fish even with the most sophisticated equipment.

So do not be discouraged, try again later in the day or try another method the next day.

Enjoy Your Fishing Holiday With Your Whole Family | Fishing Holiday

Moreover, it is not necessary to be a connoisseur of nature to take his first fish or to collect shells. A simple material, a little curiosity and some good advice will do the trick. Whether you want to fish from the shore with a cane, or discover the underwater life on the beaches, we give you advice on how to spend a good time at the water's edge.

FIRST FISH, FIRST FISH

You have certainly already crossed during your holidays, fishermen who took advantage of the benefits of the sea and its wonderful landscapes. Perhaps you even wondered how and with what equipment could we catch a fish? There are simple and affordable techniques for all to take its first fish by the sea.

To begin with, fishing for small fish on board appears to be the most suitable. It can be practiced everywhere and simply. It targets the small fish that live near our coasts. This fishing is very accessible and allows to spend good moments with family or friends. It is also an excellent way to introduce children to the practice of fishing and respect for nature.

Technical question, the fishing of the edge is by far the easiest way to start. A set ready to fish consisting of a rod of 3 or 4 meters with a line mounted and a few worms will allow you to catch small fish. Do not hesitate to take a lead box with you to adjust the weight of the assembly if necessary. If you want to fish more than 5 meters from the edge, you can use a set with a reel.

RESTORATION OF FISH

The release of a fish must be done in such a way that it retains a good chance of survival. The fish should be handled gently and the hook removed gently. To facilitate this step, crush the pin of the hook in order to easily unhook the fish. To avoid damaging the fish, wet your hands. Then do not throw the fish in the water, but put it down gently. He will go away on his own.

If the fish find it difficult to leave, have them recover their spirits by oxygenating it with a back and forth movement from front to back.

#Caperlan Tip

Use a floating bucket to keep your fish in the best conditions. You will be able to make a photo souvenir of your fishing with perennial fish that will leave without difficulty.

CHOOSING YOUR FISHING CORNER

The immensity of the sea can be problematic when choosing an area suitable for fishing. Fortunately, to start with family or friends, the posts to get involved in the fishing are often near the places of holidays. The harbors, dykes and rocky coasts are true pantries for fish that do not hesitate to approach them for food. Shrimps, crabs, worms, the list of delicacies present is long. These are areas that you will need to fish to catch fish.

SOME RULES OF LIFE ON THE WATER

In fishing as in life, respect is paramount. By acting with courtesy at the water's edge, other fishermen will be more willing to help you when needed. Here are some rules to remember for a good time at the water's edge:

1- Do not sit next to another fisherman. Keep a respectful distance of about ten meters.

2-Do not throw anything near the line of a fisherman. There are other places more suitable for launching ...

3-Do not throw your line under the nose of another fisherman. Beyond the risks of entanglements, it is a lack of good manners.

4- If you are fishing in a harbor, watch out for the boats. Throwing too close to them increases the risk of hitting boats and getting tangled in the ropes. Prefer the open areas to begin.

5-The coastline is for everyone and self-respect. Take care to leave nothing to drag (hooks, detritus, etc.), during and after your fishing party.

WALK FISHING

The shores contain a rich diversity of living species such as shellfish, shrimp or other crabs. It is an ideal activity to discover underwater life with children. Every summer, many vacationers indulge along the coast. It is important to respect some good practices (regulation, catch sizes) so that this fishery remains sustainable for the greatest number.

ROCHERS, SANDS: WHERE TO FISH ON FOOT?

On the Atlantic coast, fishing takes place at low tide when the coastline is discovered. There are several fishing areas with different funds and species.

The sandy areas

These discovered areas shelter numerous shells such as hulls, knives, tellines ... Long sandy areas are very
 easily accessible.

They are therefore particularly suitable for fishing with children due to the absence of sharp rocks.

Rocky areas

In these environments live many crustaceans but also shellfish fixed like mussels or oysters. We must seek life in the smallest recesses (faults, rocks, cavities ...).

Muddy areas

Ecologically rich, these areas are teeming with life and shelter many shells, crustaceans, as well as small fish. Having boots is not superfluous because it is easy to sink on muddy bottoms, which hinders progress.

In the Mediterranean, the absence of tides makes it more difficult to locate and collect shellfish. Nevertheless, it is quite possible to collect tellines, clams, or even mussels.

EQUIPMENT

The equipment must remain simple so as not to be unnecessarily cumbersome. A small plastic basket will be perfectly adapted for the initiation of the children to this activity. The capacity will be sufficient to carry crabs, shrimps or shells. A small light dip net with a not too large net will allow the children to handle it with ease.

There are several tools dedicated to the collection of shells such as the oyster ax, the clam knife or the claw claw.

For shrimp, the use of a havenet for rocky areas or a bichette for the sandy areas makes it possible to catch many crustaceans.

#Tip Caplan

Equip your children with polarizing glasses to remove the reverberation. Thus, they will discover the incredible richness that a modest puddle can enclose during a tide.

A FEW TIPS

1-It is up to you to inquire before each fishing part to check that there are no local or temporary prohibitions. For this, you can go to the tourist office, the town hall, the port, etc ...

2- Find out about tide schedules so you do not get trapped. These schedules are available easily at the nearest tourist office, on the port, on the internet ...

3 - Every turned stone must be returned to the place to avoid the life it sheltered does not dry in the sun ... This small innocuous gesture makes all the difference.

4- Equip yourself against sunburn. The freshness of the sea air often makes us forget the heat but the sun is always present.

5- To avoid sprains as well as cuts do not walk barefoot.

6- Respect the facilities of professional fishermen (oyster beds, nets, etc) imperatively.

You now have the necessary elements to spend good times with your family during your summer holidays. Feel free to share your fishing experiences in the comments. You can share your fishing experiences with the dedicated hashtage #Caperlan. We tell you very soon at the water's edge.
